Shopify visual shipping rates flow: a canvas, not another zone row

Shopify zones are rows: US, 0–2 lb, $8. A remote ZIP, a cart-total threshold and a dealer tag do not fit in that row. Shopify visual shipping rates flow is the canvas: `Start when…`, condition cards, rate cards, reconnect, save. Checked 8 November 2026: OO ‑ Shipping Rates & Rules listing, docs Shipping rates and Shopify plan requirements, Shopify Help Shipping rates. If the canvas steps change, or Shopify’s carrier-calculated plan gate moves, reread this before you promise “we’ll just draw it”.

Yesterday was shipping rules by collection — one condition. This post is the graph.

Native Shopify is a table per zone

Help (8 Nov 2026): zones group countries; rates are flat, free-over, or carrier-calculated (UPS/FedEx). More cases mean more zones or more weight bands. There is no branch “remote ZIP and weight over 10 lb”. There is no reconnect when a rule floats off the table.

Workarounds until checkout lies:

Another zone for remote ZIPs. Fine until the cart-total discount also has to apply. Then you multiply zones × thresholds.

Hiding shipping in the product price. Checkout looks free. The books do not.

Hide/rename only. Delivery customization is a different canvas. It does not create a price. Docs plan requirements: hide/rename/reorder on more plans; your own carrier prices typically need Advanced or higher, a development/Partner store, Plus, or a shop where the carrier is already active.

What the listing calls a visual flow

Listing 8 Nov 2026: Free, 0 reviews. Hero: build logic as a visual flow, or describe it and let AI draft. 40+ conditions. Combined rates. Hide/rename/reorder. Logs.

Docs Shipping rates collection, three pieces: create an app zone and open the visual rates flow; the canvas is Start when…, conditions, rates, reconnect, and save; pricing is fixed / cart weight / quantity / total / volume / dimensional weight plus discounts.

Sources: listing 8 Nov 2026; Shipping rates collection; plan article (~16 days). AI may draft; you review before save. Combined rates are a separate hub: several zone rates → one checkout line. Activity logs: last 7 days.

The carrier must sit on every Shopify zone/market you care about — install and add the carrier. A canvas without the carrier is an empty checkout.

Visual rates flow: Start when US, ZIP branch to remote rate, else weight tiers — checked 8 Nov 2026

Weight bands live in rates by weight. ZIP branches in rates by postal code. Cart total in rates by cart total. This post is why those are cards on one canvas, not extra Shopify rows. Setup order: how to set shipping rates.

What I would draw for US, remote ZIP, 4 lb, $130 cart

Native: United States, 0–5 lb $8. A rural ZIP pays the same. Tagged dealers should pay $0. Three rows will not do it.

On Advanced (or development/Plus), 8 Nov 2026:

App zone “US”. Canvas: `Start when…` country = US. Condition: destination postal code in the remote list → fixed rate + handling. Reconnect that card to Start; a floating card is not a checkout rate. Else: cart-weight tiers, threshold discount when cart total ≥ 130. Extra branch: customer tag dealer → $0. Reconnect again. Attach carrier OO - Shipping Rate & Rules on the Shopify US zone. Test: metro 4 lb, remote 4 lb, metro $130, dealer.

Without reconnect, whichever branch still has a line “wins”. Logs (7 days) show which zone/rate fired — or why not. Basic without Advanced/dev/Plus/an active carrier: no custom prices; hide/rename still has its own canvas.

Getting it live

Read the plan banner. No Advanced? Do not promise custom rates. Do promise delivery customization. On Advanced: zone, canvas, reconnect every card, carrier on all zones/markets, test, logs. Listing: Free. 0 reviews.

Closing

I would draw one US canvas — remote ZIP, weight, $130, dealer — and save only when every rate card has a line back to `Start when…`. Shopify visual shipping rates flow is that graph, not another row in Shipping and delivery. Native zones stay tables. Listing 8 Nov 2026: visual flow + AI draft, Free. Docs: Start when, conditions, rates, reconnect, save. Carrier rates: Advanced, development or Plus. Hide/rename: more plans. If a gate moves, this advice is void.

Draw the flow from the OO ‑ Shipping Rates & Rules listing and reconnect before you promise a test checkout.
