Weighted scorecard: Shopify B2B wholesale apps

Wholesale on Shopify splits into two jobs that apps keep bundling. One job is “give this buyer a price, a login, and a form.” The other is “check an EU VAT number and take the VAT off the order.” A Shopify B2B wholesale apps weighted scorecard has to keep those jobs apart. The three public listings here are OO ‑ B2B & Wholesale, BSS B2B Wholesale Pricing, and SparkLayer B2B & Wholesale. Read on 2 November 2026.

Net terms, POS, an ERP, and quoting matter when the merchant names them. They are not knock-outs in this score unless the brief says so.

OO ‑ B2B & Wholesale is Built for Shopify, rated 5.0 from 34 reviews (33 fives, one four), launched 9 February 2024. The language line says English. The description covers price lists and volume breaks per customer, tag, or company, registration, quotes with AI formulas, bulk forms, repeat orders, EU tax exemption, prices including or excluding VAT, login-to-see-price, and a wholesale cart with extra fields.

The module map puts Tax Exempt on Starter, not Free. The FAQ says a VAT field inside checkout is a Plus constraint. On other plans the check lives on the cart or in the drawer. Goods shipped from outside the EU are outside reverse charge. The listing does not name Xero, QuickBooks, or POS.

BSS is Built for Shopify, rated 4.9 from 1,198 reviews (about 1.1K fives, 33 fours, 2 threes, 5 twos, 23 ones), launched 18 September 2020. Languages on the listing include Dutch, German, and French alongside English. Works-with includes checkout, customer accounts, POS, and Klaviyo.

BSS checks EU and UK VAT IDs on the form from $29. The sentence “Mark B2B customers TAX-exempt on cart” is on the $49 card. Quotes are not a line on the plan cards. The “what merchants think” blurb mentions them. Do not cite BSS quotes as a named plan feature.

SparkLayer’s fetched page did not show a Built for Shopify badge. Rating 4.9 from 388 (359 fives, 17 fours, 2 threes, 5 twos, 5 ones), launched 28 April 2021, languages including Dutch. Works-with: Cin7, Katana, Linnworks, QuickBooks, Unleashed, Xero. The product is a buyer portal plus sales intelligence (Pulse, Sparkie). Categories include tax exemptions, net terms, and a signup form. VIES is not on the listing.

Default weights, then the exception

BSS wins the default total, 4.43 to 4.05 and 3.95, on integrations, scale, and a review base past a thousand. OO wins price-to-value because VIES plus logs is on Starter at $22, and quotes plus bulk forms are on Growth at $37. BSS puts cart tax-exempt on $49 and the API or POS on $99. SparkLayer puts quoting on $299, with a 150-order cap on that card.

OO’s 4.5 is not a 5: the listing has no ERP, POS, or sales reps. SparkLayer’s 4.0 is the portal, the reps, and the order caps. The VIES knock-out below removes SparkLayer from an EU shortlist only.

If VIES is mandatory

When the must-have is “validate the number and remove VAT on the intra-EU order”:

OO Starter says it in those words: EU tax exemption (VIES + logs), $22.
BSS Essential ($29) says it checks EU/UK VAT, ABN, and GST on forms. Tax-exempt on the cart is Advanced, $49.
SparkLayer lists tax exemptions as a category and does not say VIES. It fails this knock-out until the listing says otherwise.

When the must-have is “POS, an ERP API, and a large install base,” BSS wins on the public card, and SparkLayer wins on the named accounting connectors. OO does not win that shortlist. Do not write the article as if it does.

Native B2B, and the gap it leaves

Shopify Help — B2B features by plan, 2 November 2026: B2B runs on Basic, Grow, Advanced, and Plus. Not on Starter or Retail. Companies, quantity rules, quantity price breaks, net terms, the quick order list, and Flow are on all of those plans. Basic, Grow, and Advanced allow up to 3 active catalog assignments across active B2B markets. Catalogs assigned directly to a company or location, and deposits, are Plus.

Native is enough when you stay inside those three catalogs, you create the customers yourself, and you mark a company location tax-exempt by hand. That Help page does not describe a VIES lookup at signup, a public registration form with approve/reject, or a bulk order page beyond the quick order list. More than three market catalogs without Plus, or a price per tag without a company catalog, is where an app starts.

OO’s VAT check does not replace Shopify Tax. The FAQ says domestic numbers are validated and VAT stays, and shipments from outside the EU are outside reverse charge.

Reviews, with the one-star counts

OO: 5.0 from 34, one four-star, no one-star. A 6 October 2026 review from the Netherlands is about reverse-charged VAT and fast support. The sample is small, so reviews score 3.5, not 5.

BSS: 4.9 from 1,198, including 23 one-star ratings (about 2%). Three recent reviews (23, 22, and 14 October 2026) are positive, and BSS replies, including on 29 October. The volume is the evidence. The one-star count belongs in the score. The text of those one-stars was not in the three recent cards.

SparkLayer: 4.9 from 388, five one-star ratings. Recent reviews on 26, 9, and 8 October 2026 praise support. SparkLayer replied on 19 October to at least two of them.

Which install the weights justify

On the default weights, install BSS if you are optimizing the total (4.43). On the EU knock-out “VIES, and VAT off the order, under $30,” OO is the listing that puts that on Starter at $22, with logs. SparkLayer is the better shortlist when you need reps, Pulse, and Xero or QuickBooks, and VIES is not a requirement — then only on the plan whose order cap covers you, not on the free five orders.
