Shopify B2B free plan: one pricing rule

Retail stays at the catalogue price. One trade account should pay 20% less. You do not need volume tables, VIES, or a bulk grid for that. You need a Shopify B2B free plan one pricing rule. On OO - B2B & Wholesale that is the Free tier: one custom pricing rule, one registration form with approve/reject, Flow templates for that form. Development stores: no caps.

Starter at $22 is unlimited lists, volume pricing, tax display, login-to-see-prices, VIES. Growth at $37 is bulk forms, quotes, repeat orders, limits, wholesale cart fields. Free is none of those. Free is one active list on the storefront.

Related: company price lists. That article is how Custom Pricing assigns a list. This one is the Free ceiling — and when the ceiling is the point.

Shopify’s three catalogues vs one app list

Shopify B2B catalogues: Basic, Grow and Advanced get three active catalogues across B2B markets. Plus is unlimited, with at most 25 catalogues on a company location. Custom Pricing does not spend those slots. App lists scale with your plan, not with Shopify’s catalogue cap.

Free still means one active Custom Pricing list on the storefront. You can switch extra lists on. The module map is explicit: only the oldest active list in that module is used. Same rule for registration forms. Unused extras stay stored. They do not all go live.

Listing (4 Nov 2026): Built for Shopify, 5.0 from 34 reviews. Free. Starter $22/month or $220/year. Growth $37/month or $370/year. 14-day trial on paid plans. USD. Development stores have no caps, so you can rehearse Starter and Growth modules there without paying yet.

Buyers see the custom price after they log in, once the theme app embed is on. Finish setup from the Custom Pricing card if the number does not change. Everyone else keeps the normal product price.

Ways to outgrow Free without noticing

Two live lists on Free. Installers vs retailers. Both On. Storefront serves the oldest. The second group never gets its tariff. Upgrade, or keep a single list.

Quantity breaks on Free. Volume pricing is Starter. Custom Pricing is a fixed price or a discount for chosen products and chosen customers or companies. It does not drop the unit price at 24 pieces.

A bulk grid on day one. Bulk forms, RFQ, MOQ, extra cart fields: Growth. Custom Pricing is a product-page price list, not an order sheet.

Hide prices until login on Free. That toggle is Starter. Guests still see retail. Approved contacts see the list price after login if they are assigned and the embed is on.

None of that is a defect. It is the plan table.

Run Free as a closed loop

  1. Install from the listing. Stay on Free, or use a development store (no caps).

  2. Turn Custom Pricing on under B2B pricing. Finish setup so the shared app embed sits on the published theme.

  3. Build one list. Assign companies or customers. Leave a second list Off if you already drafted it.

  4. Keep one registration form. Approve or reject. Flow templates apply to that form only.

  5. Guest session: retail. Logged-in contact on the list: the custom price.

You do not need Shopify Plus for the app list. You do not spend a native catalogue slot.

Leave Tax Exempt, incl./excl. VAT display, volume pricing and login-to-see-prices for Starter. Leave bulk, quotes, order limits and wholesale cart for Growth. Founder accounts include Growth modules — that is not the Free promise.

Changing theme does not wipe the list. You do add the embed again.

Walkthrough: trade lighting, one discount

“Lumen Trade” sells a pendant at €89. Electrical contractors should pay €71.20. One group, no breaks, no RFQ.

They created “Contractors” and “Showroom staff” as two Custom Pricing lists, both On. The showroom list was older. Contractors never saw €71.20.

Fix: one active list, contractors only. Showroom list Off. One registration form, company name plus VAT field, manual approve. After approval the contact logs in and the product page shows €71.20. Guests still see €89.

They rehearsed on a development store first — listing: no caps there. Live shop stayed on Free until a second tariff (export vs contractors) was real. Then Starter $22 unlocked extra lists, volume pricing and VIES. Bulk forms waited for Growth, when contractors started ordering twenty SKUs in one sitting.

Starter at $22 is cheaper than fighting the cap

Move up when you need:

  • two or more live price lists

  • quantity breaks

  • prices hidden until login

  • EU tax exemption with VIES logs

  • more than one registration form on the storefront

Growth at $37 when the buyer should order from a grid, request a quote, reorder, or hit an MOQ. Compare inside the app under See plans. Annual billing on Starter and Growth saves 17% on the listing.

Close

A Shopify B2B free plan one pricing rule is the listing, not a teaser: one custom pricing rule, one registration form, Flow for that form, unlimited on development stores. Extra lists you leave On do not all apply — only the oldest active one does. Shopify’s own three-catalogue limit on non-Plus plans is a separate ceiling; this list does not use those slots.

Put that single rule live in OO - B2B & Wholesale before you pay Starter “just in case.” The test is simple: guests pay retail, one approved company does not.
